Whoa is this my first Deltarune cover? Oh yeah and it sure won't be my last! It has been over a year since I've done anything Undertale-related on this channel, but I recently got into the Deltarune soundtrack and immediately fell in love with it. I was about five years late getting into Undertale, but I'm only three years late this time, so it's okay right? Better late than never, right...?
So how do you arrange a 50-second song that already has a decent amount of other covers? The first time through the song, I stayed true to the original for the most part when it came to melody/accompaniment, pauses in phrasing, etc. The second time through, I let it grow into something new by adding harmonies in the two xylophone parts and extra movement in the vibes while doubling the melody in the bells/toy piano. The combination of piano and four-mallet marimba ripples creates such a beautiful, warm accompaniment sound that is perfect for arrangements like these.
I usually play my arrangements for my dad before I finalize the audio mix (to get a second set of ears) and, knowing absolutely nothing about Undertale/Deltarune, he said, "this sounds like it belongs in a Miyazaki film." You know, he's got a point, and now I really want to see an Undertale/Deltarune - Studio Ghibli crossover...
