Inspired by the Reading Gamebow group's Team Reading, I am replaying Doom 64 on ultra hard settings. What is ultra hard you may ask? Further inspired by Decino's Doom 64 play through, it is "Watch Me Die" difficulty with pistol starts, fast monsters, and no mid-level loading. This map, also known as "Research Lab", is similar in difficulty to Alpha Quadrant. It has enemies distributed sparsely thus there is plenty of cover to take out the zombiemen; well most of the time. I took damage every time from the traps in the hallways. But the big power up secrets are not hard to get so there's plenty of health to handle the zombiemen. I made a mistake, for the first time, by strafing into a toxic pit, so it took me a while to find the lift back up. It didn't kill me, thus I survive another day to murder more demons!
