Inspired by the Reading Gamebow group's Team Reading, I am replaying Doom 64 on ultra hard settings. What is ultra hard you may ask? Further inspired by Decino's Doom 64 play through, it is "Watch Me Die" difficulty with pistol starts, fast monsters, and no mid-level loading. Unlike Decino, I do not know all of the secrets. So I will be missing some power ups and I already anticipate some areas I will have difficulty in. We'll see how far I can endure the onslaught! It wouldn't be Doom 64 if you didn't feel oppressed and at a disadvantage after all. Oh and I am testing the next version of my sound 'enhancement' mod. It's not a good sign already; I almost died on the 1st level. With fast monsters, the zombiemen quickly shoot you with little warning. They sent me to 1 health, yet I fought my way back! On level 2 I tried to kill the spectres with my chainsaw, but due to the pistol start I didn't have a chainsaw and they really chomped me! It was my hubris that killed me though as I tried to rush through the crushers and got squished. Then on level 3, I was fearing the lost souls on "fast" settings. But I was fortunate and they killed each other through infighting mostly. Wish me luck on the next levels, I think I will need it!
