Inspired by the Reading Gamebow group's Team Reading, I am replaying Doom 64 on ultra hard settings. What is ultra hard you may ask? Further inspired by Decino's Doom 64 play through, it is "Watch Me Die" difficulty with pistol starts, fast monsters, and no mid-level loading. This map, also known as "Even Simpler", is a homage to the Doom 2 map "Dead Simple". In general, this map is hard for me without ultra hard settings. I like to think I am pretty good in using tight spaces to my advantage, but open arenas are tricky with my lack of quick reflexes! Took me a bit to figure out how to handle the mancubi, but I realized if I circle strafed around the pillars a lot of their shots would be blocked and I was far away enough to dodge their missiles. Just had to make sure I didn't actually get stuck in the pillars! I was hoping to kill all the pain elementals while invulnerable, but I missed one! And I made a few more small mistakes, but it didn't stop me from defeating those damn demons!
