What's this? A playthrough? Why certainly! And why, you may ask? Because I wanted to, that's why! I apparently also love using the word why in unnecessary excess...huh

Anyway, this version of Doom 64 is not the same version that I uploaded last time (knows as Doom 64: The Absolution), but rather a WAD known as Doom 64: Retribution, made by the incredibly talented Nevander.

This playthrough will be sans commentary, and will also be done on the Watch Me Die! difficulty (which used to be the hardest difficulty in the original game, but is as high as I'm willing to go, since the two newer difficulties are simply masochistic), as well as being 100%...all Kills, all Items, and all Secrets.

Also, for those who are curious, this was recorded completely raw, as in there is no editing involved whatsoever (as I do not have any editing software), and was recorded using Nvidia Shadowplay.

In contrast to Absolution, which is its own independent executable, made entirely in a new engine called Doomsday, Retribution is instead a WAD that runs on the GZDoom platform, making it much easier to install and play in the long run. The specific version of Retribution that I am playing is the most current version available, v1.4a (which runs optimally on the most current version of GZDoom, version 3.2.5), complete with all the new maps that were included in Absolution, known in this WAD simply as the Absolution Maps and the Outcast Maps, including 3 maps in the Outcast Level pack that were never finished by the original author(s), one of them being the ever-so famous Samuel "Kaiser" Villarreal, the same person responsible for making Absolution, Doom 64 EX, and the Steam remasters of both Turok: Dinosaur Hunter AND Turok 2: Seeds of Evil! Busy man, he is. He's also involved in the upcoming Steam remaster of Forsaken, for those who are intrigued by this guy's resume.

Speaking of new levels, the levels that I have just recently recorded and shall now upload are the Outcast Levels! Only 7 of these levels were available in Absolution (or at least the version of it that I have), but all 10 are available in Retribution v1.4a, which include 2 Tech Base levels (OUT03: Control and OUT04: Forge) and 1 Hell Level (OUT08: Derelict), which are all insanely fun and SUPER creative! Nevander really outdid himself with this one! Forge especially has some nifty new features!

Speaking of Nevander and this amazing WAD, you can download and play it for yourself! Just head on over to the link provided below and experience the lovely, Dark Ambient-plagued magic!

So, what about this level? Welp, it's a Tech Base level (of which there are 6 in total, including the secret map (although that map looks like a hybrid of both Tech Base and Hell to me), and a relatively simple one, yet plenty of fun and challenge, complete with some nasty traps and surprise enemy ambushes! The designers were nice enough to allow you to obtain the beastly Unmaker right away (albeit as 1 of this level's 3 secrets), and believe me when I say YOU WILL BE USING IT for these levels. Seriously, I want to see this weapon in more games. So brutal.

SECRETS:

Secret #1 -- 2:15

When you walk up or down the stairs in front of the Blue Keycard, you will hear a door opening; head back out the door you came in from and, inside the little alcove where the two Shotgun Guys were, there will be a (uniquely designed) switch on the right-hand wall. Press it quickly before the window closes and head back out the door that leads to the hallway filled with computer screens. Immediately after opening the door, you will notice that a wall has temporarily opened up, revealing a Rocket Launcher and some Rockets. Useful! But beware, as 3 Shotgun Guys will spawn in after you grab the weapon.

Secret #2 -- 3:33

After the Imp ambush in the room full of lights on the floor and ceiling, head up the small set of stairs and take care of the Demon at the other end. Immediately pull a 180 and use the darkened section of wall; you will hear something open in the very room that the Demon was guarding. Open the door, look immediately to your left and BAM! Unmaker! No ambushes this time. This beauty comes with no bloodied strings attached.

Secret #3 -- 5:10

Grab the Yellow Keycard, immediately whip out either your newly-acquired Unmaker or Chaingun to deal with the gaggle of Lost Souls that try to ruin your day, then (facing the hallway with the switch on the wall, head to the leftmost panel of wall and use it to reveal a Berserk. Could come in real handy if you lost some health on the way here!
