Doom 64: Retribution - Outcast Levels - OUT08: Derelict (Watch Me Die!, 100%)
0And we have now reached the last of the 3 new maps in the Outcast Level pack! And what a map it is!
This map introduces the new feature of putting out lit candles. What is this for you may ask? Well it isn't just for show! It actually is the key to this level's final secret!
A fun level overall, though the video may be quite dark in some places...probably should have upped the Gamma Contrast for this one, heh...my bad. The design of this level is very unique and has a very special presentation for the ending, what with the placing of the Skull Keys on pedestals to unlock the exit to the final level. Cool stuff!
SECRETS:
Secret #1 -- 1:20
Use the middle bookshelf (which is somewhat darker than the others) to open a section of wall to your left for an Energy Cell Pack! Hope you enjoyed how easy that secret was, because this next one is a doozy!
Secret #2 -- Multi-Part Secret - this secret involves 9 candles that you must put out (just use the "Use" key on them like you would a door or button) and a very well-hidden Impact Switch that you must seek out! I will put timestamps for all the needed events below:
0:35 - Candle #1
0:50 - Bookshelf to lower and the super-hidden Impact Switch! This switch allows access to the Plasma Gun in the outside area as well as the uniquely-designed Skull Switch which allows access into the actual secret room, which is inside this very cave!
1:53 - Candle #2
2:29 - Candle #3
3:52 - Candles #4 and #5
5:57 - Candle #6
6:06 - Candle #7
7:06 - Candle #8
7:32 - Candle #9
Once you have snuffed out all 9 candles, head back to the first library area which contained the first candle and the bookshelf "door" leading to the cave and the Impact Switch and head all the way to the end to find the bar preventing access to the room has lowered! If all 9 candles inside the secret room are lit, that means you have found all candles in the map and a Skull Switch will be there for you to throw...do so, and look to the pillar in the middle; it will lower, revealing a Megasphere, which is the final secret in the level! Take a breath of relief after all that, you've earned it! Now head to the final level and prepare for another big fight to end it all!
