Story (from txt file):
[My father was the King and a good one. He was
also a good man and he taught me that I would
one day take over the throne. That was before
the treachery of Hilsgarde. Hilsgarde, a trusted
advisor met with the dark one and his minions
and killed my father and sacked the Kingdom.

I was but a young boy, but I remember that
terrible night well. The magic was so strong
that the very veil of time was rent, and the
ages future and ages past mixed and mingled.

My Fathers dying words still echo in my ears.

"Destroy the hell spawn and return the Kingdom back to its glory."

I will father, I will.]

This map has a lot of spice for 1997! Hell's Eventide was chosen as the 9th top wad of 1997, so another random choice from that list. It is a collaboration between 3 mappers, and has some story to it. I thought this would be easy, and I thought I would be able to get the record on it too. But this was like 100+ attempts to get one exit, and I am not gonna try any further. It is a tough one. Its like Plutonia gameplay with kinda Innermost Dens styling? You are getting rained down upon from all angles from right when you start, and it doesn't let up. The first room you want to damage all the spectres with the barrels, but getting around them without any exploding requires some luck, so that's where most attempts ended. The next room is pretty rough too though. All the candelabras are super annoying to get stuck on at the worst times when trying to make stuff infight. I am not really sure what exactly triggers the revenant wave to spawn in so I just shoot everything and run over every linedef. The 3rd crutch point is the first archvile, which is a very dangerous placement. Needs to be dealt with very very quickly and accurately. The final crutch point is that stupid BFG crusher. I felt like such an idiot every time I accidentally went too far and got stuck in it. This was actually the first attempt I got past that room, so I got a bit held up for the remainder of the run and probably wasted a lot of time. Even forgot where the exit was for a sec. Whatever, I'm not hung up about it.
