Hold onto your seats because this ride is going to be long and bumpy (metaphorically meaning the description for those who don't understand).

Scythe's map 30 is definitely the most notorious map of the set. It's known for it's placement extremely well, considering it is the biggest map of the set, has the most interesting fights of the set, whilst also being the most brutally, hair-pulling map. The sheer spike in difficulty is enough to make grown men tremble to their knees and plead mercy. This is a force NOT to be reckoned with. However, I reckoned with it, and looking at the attempt count, I sure paid the price for doing so!

Fire and Ice is split up into several fights, all with major choking points within them. It really doesn't matter how you play the map, because I guarantee you will die either way. If I were to pinpoint some of the hardest fights in the map, i'd probably go for the yellow key fight. The avalanches of revenants, cyberdemons make dodging and weaving all the fun. The trick is obviously to let them infight, in which the cybers will usually win. Then you pick out the cybers using the BFG that you get at the start.

I forgot to mention that the BFG is an essential weapon throughout this whole map. YOU WILL NEED IT! Even with a weapon as powerful, the odds are still very much against you. In a sense this is actually pretty good design in terms of combat. You really ought to know how the BFG works in order to proceed through this map with no sweat.

Back to the yellow key fight. What does it for me is the tower cybers. In Fire and Ice, you will see that as I enter the yard section of the map, there are cybers on each platform above, waiting to snipe you. Let me get one thing straight. FUCK. THESE. CYBERDEMONS.

Not only is it just straight up frustrating that you have to try and 2 shot one on each tower, but the fact that they will break out from infighting and start to target you makes this entirely a different matter. This will break you, as it broke me. No matter how flawlessly you play here, there's the chance that a single rocket, could kill your run, that you were not aware of. It's slightly disrespectful gesturing towards the player, but it is also an absolute nuisance to full throttle with in the background. When cleaning up, the best thing you can do is try to kill the tower cybers asap. That way you can rely mostly on the ground cybers, which aren't as threatening as they look.

Then there's the red key fight. Yet again, the cyberdemon takes the cake for being the most annoying ass enemy in this situation. Two of which block you from grabbing the key and initiating the revenant fight. These cybers are obnoxiously placed, and the only way to safely pass them is to either get them to infight with the barons (which by the time they've probably already killed), or take the secret passage to lure them to the corner, so you can safely jump across and nuke them both. I have died at least 30% of the time to these cybers, solely because I have spent too much time there, or I have gotten unlucky with infighting.

Then there's the revenant fight that follows after. At first I thought this fight was tedious. Having to dodge rocket projectiles that home in on you whilst tracking the arch viles that slowly creep to the front, WHILST ALSO scoping the scene for cacodemons and pain elementals that squeeze through the windows.

I forgot to mention that in a sub area of the yard, there's a huge cloud of cacos and pain elementals that's unleashed when you perform an action (shooting in this case). That's why i tend to kill the cyber, hit the switch and get the hell out.

Back to the revenant horde. This fight honestly isn't too bad once you practice it enough. Sobad's video on revenants really helped me with getting a dodging pattern that was consistent, as most of the time afterwards I was able to complete the fight without losing a single bit of health.

Now that i've got the hardest parts of the map out of the way, there's a lot of other fights I need to talk about. There's the main room fight, in which you have lots of rockets and BFG at your disposal. It's really not much of a threat unless the cybers from the towers OUTSIDE decide to snipe you. This has unfortunately happened to me once. There's the hell knight, baron horde that opens up when you hit a switch, but the cyber most of the time is a non-threat since it just dies to infighting. The hordes of enemies are more of the threat, but just use your BFG and rockets once again and it shouldn't be much of a problem.
