If only I still did live reactions. I was astounded when I beat this map due to how long I was stuck on it for. Granted that I have also been mapping for Junkfood 3. Speaking of which I am still yet to do my cheat week series, which I will consider in the summer of this year, when I have more spare time on my hands!
Now, onto this map. Personally, i'm not actually a big fan of the gameplay. Ribbiks takes an approach of having a couple scattered enemies that breaks out into a big run for space in the latter stages. This run is far from perfect, and honestly i'm more than willing to keep it that way.
This map starts off pretty simple, grab the secret first because it slows down the run if you save it for later and it kinda serves no purpose if you really think about it. Then you wanna grab the yellow key and initiate the big fight asap. That way you can get the spiderdemon to negotiate a bit of infighting.
From here I was pretty stuck with where to go in terms of routing, and I ended up losing several attempts here! Luckily, by the time I was going back to doing demos for this map, Player Andrea had posted a demo. From that point I had a rough idea on where to go after certain points.
Once you jump off the ledge, you go back to the first bit and clear it out. This is a trick I learnt that actually saved me a lot of time. If you clear out the imps and revenant first in the building and then save the hell knight for later, you will prevent the monsters from crowding up at the bridge. If they all decide to crowd up, it could make your run much more tedious. This isn't 100% accurate in terms of strategy and there are the odd chances that a monster will still be present. In this run and many other previous attempts, it worked pretty well.
Once you cross the bridge and grab the rocket launcher, you are then free to basically grab the rest of the ammo stash and clear out anything that comes your path. Note that the BFG shots should be saved for when the monsters crowd up and for the 2 viles in the red key building. Also note those two imps on top of the building near the garden, they're really easy to miss.
Afterwards, you can deal with the mancubui, hell knights and pinkies squash. It's honestly not too bad once you get the flow of it, just be cautious when the pinky appears otherwise kiss your run goodbye.
If anyone tries to reclaim the record, once i've finished walking through all these maps, I can go back to reclaim some of these. This map is definitely one I have a rough idea with. There is one method of plan, but it's extremely hard to pull off and it's very muddy in terms of routing too.
Crumpets 2 is no longer easy from this point. The scenery changes and things just get a lot harder from here!
