The Hall of Champions really is for the champions. This map could well and truly be the hardest map of the entire set.
405 attempts for a lost magic map is pretty nuts, although at least it wasn't rushed and it was pretty decent for a first clear. The map itself is pretty tough but also very gimmicky.
First of all you have to AVJ, in which if you do not, your punishment is 20 damaging floor. Why 20 damaging floor? I have no clue, but it becomes a serious problem more towards the end. Seeing as it's a boom compatible wad, you could remove effects through some voodoo shenanigans. This is only really since I kinda felt like traversing back for ammo was pretty disrespectful on the player.
The next part is that you have to 2 tap some cyberdemons (optimally to do so in this case). These cyberdemons aren't ambush and will wake up after they hear the sound of your BFG staff go off, so when the horde of revenants appear and you've left a couple foes on the battlefield, get out of sight fast! In this case my strategy is to only wake up the first cyber and wait out the rest, however there have been several failed attempts where I fail to kill the first cyber before the second one is released, or I don't clear the revenants quick enough to get out of the way before being shelled.
Anyways, then there's the crap ton of pain. And when I mean pain I mean the 30 or so pain elementals. There really is no efficient strategy here, although it's more optimal on time to leave some of the cybers alive to help infight. When you get the chance, just shoot everything until it dies.
The final part is really a no-brainer. You should be able to complete it easily, just keep moving and give yourself a lot of space when you hit the last switch. From there you can grab the secrets and exit the level.
The main challenge in this whole map is the cyberdemon timed fight followed by the pain horde. You really don't get much health in this map other than 2 berserks, which you have to traverse through 20 damaging floor. shaking my head.
