A year later, and I have returned to Tangerine Nightmare (finally).
The 2 main things i'm gonna talk about before I reiterate what I last wrote in my previous demo on this map:
Firstly, the main reason I redid this run was because the video desynced with the audio. If this video gets more than 100 views, I will unlist the previous video.
Secondly, fuck that skip. As you can see, I failed 4 times with this stupid jump, not that it was intended for the map. But god damn was it so frustrating. Getting the plasma early is like a gauntlet of it's own. It's definitely the key to beating V1perk1ller's time.
Now, lets go back over my review for this map, because this map may come off as a little controversial nowadays regarding the author.
"Lets get this out of the way first. The Forgotten Land is absolutely gorgeous in terms of combat and in progression. From what i have experience from this map, the start is hot and heavy, lots of sniper enemies, hitscanners and that damn arch vile on the stairs. That vile has caused me far too many deaths, but nevertheless I forgive the monster placement. The ambushes of this map feel extremely natural and soul crushing. But since I have had an action plan towards these, it has significantly nerfed the full experience for me. The creator of this map (who goes by JC Dorne) exactly knows how to make progression feel good."
Several of my deaths this time were rather caused by that stupid jump. I could've just scrapped the idea but I wanted to get a quicker time, and it was the way to do it. It makes getting through that building with the crap ton of hitscanners a LOT easier!
"However, the second fight takes things into a whole new level. The method I used against that fight, made things much easier for me, since it got rid of the main threats (being the 2 arch viles that spawn in) and it rewarded me with a megasphere (which is the final secret of the map). This fight overall makes me speechless on what to say. It is a slaughter fest spectacle that grips your soul and holds you close to it."
I still stand by what i said, the cave fight is glorious and it's definitely one of those fights you will remember when finishing the WAD. Nevertheless, the invuln significantly nerfs the fight, in which you can easily kill the viles and tick off the remaining enemies when all the infighting is done.
That's all. I'm not even gonna begin going down the dark rabbit hole.
