Darkness, our old friend.. we continue in Episode 2 with "Deimos Lab". This map here is one of the more unsettling maps in the original Doom and is a lab that is more corrupted by hellspawn than the previous 3 maps, This map showcases more new textures such as the infamous "demon face" wall textures, some crushing ceilings that haven't killed me in over 20 years and the ominous track "They're Going To Get You" which only plays in this map in the original release.

The track gives this map more of a horror feel that Phobos Lab wishes it had, We're running over "linedefs" to set off lowering walls, a constant source of jumpscares for me except the computer map secret, I knew it was coming. Lost Souls which I forgot to talk of also were introduced in Episode 2 back in Deimos Anomaly if you were playing on Hurt me Plently, These scumbag skulls on fire are cruel when they charge you and you have the rocket launcher out, but their in-fight mechanics are easily to make enemies fight them.

Some secrets of this map took me a while to find, like duke 3d and other shooters I still don't know where all secrets are. But this is NEEDED by default if pistol starting doom levels as pistoling demons or shotgunning barons isn't the most.. appealing thing but I do it anyway. Speaking of that as you get further along, Episode prepares you for the incredible brutality and deprivation that episode 3, Inferno will bring to the table.

"Command Center" is apparently a military installation base like we entered in Military Base. Shotgunners right off the bat with a pistol can really piss me off at times if rng gets my health down by 30 points or more, I took a more unusual route here running around the map gathering what I could and in cases running away from the monster closets like the mega-armor pinky demon trap.

Command Center is somewhat rough with what looks like random decorations in rooms that are connected by several doors, the ambushes are spine chilling though "Demons on the Prey" doesn't hit with the same amount of tension vs "They're Going to Get You", Command Center also features the secret exit and is quite easy to locate with the press of a skull switch and getting past some lost souls.

Its hated by many, I'm neutral for the most part, The secret map is named "Fortress Of Mystery", This two-room map contains Barons of Hell and Cacodemons, its a matter of dancing and avoiding the barons powerful claw attack/plasma throws and the Cacodemons lightning ball attack/bites, and Yes.. I decided to single segment this map because fuck pistol starting and having to wait for the monsters to kill one another.

This map may have the worst song ever in Doom which is "Untitled", Its Bobby Prince's rift on Mouth For War by Pantera, The map it seems was made by Sandy Peterson to demonstrate what is now known as monster in-fighting which was a new concept back in 1993, I can appreciate that but I refuse to wait that long again. Should note this secret map was very confusing to me because it seemed like there was no way to escape until I used that wall that leads to the most questionable design choice of having every key in the same area behind a locked key "wall".

Episode 16 next week will close Episode 3 with the terrifying "Halls of the Damned", "Spawning Vats", and "Tower of Babel". These 3 maps prepare you well for the upcoming Inferno episode but it can still lay you low.
