This is the first part of a playthrough of the March 2016 PK3 file Doom Tribute Project by Alando1 (Alan). I picked this file as it's made a impression on me since I first played it.
Doom Tribute Project is a remappigng and re-visioning of not just Doom but Doom II in a single continuing mapset. The storyline is told from the Doom Marine's perspective and there's a total of 8 Episodes breaking down the original Doom's 3 episodes and all of Doom II to the Icon of Sin.
Firstly, We begin with the Iconic pistol which has new view model, and later on we can dual wield two of them. Shotgun reflects its Toosie Toy design and the real kicker? Monster variety has been greatly expanded: There's many types of Zombiemen, Shotgun guys, Imps and new Pinkies/Cacodemons/Barons. Later on new custom monsters will include Tranquilizer Rifle Zombies, Jetpack Zombies, and Flying Mancubeses.
Walking into this PK3 file, don't think for one minute it'll be easy: Alando1 pieces together a mapset that plays on our habits and our memory with Doors needing a switch to open vs the usual door opening, There's nasty ambushes you'll never see coming and there's quite a few boss battles that caught me off guard. Episode 1 isn't exactly.. Easy to say the least, I take a cautious approach as rushing won't help you in this mapset.
