Double Dragon - Game Boy - Mission 1 & 2 - (1990) - Nintendo - Retro Nostalgia
Today I played Double Dragon for the Nintendo Game Boy. Release Date: 1990
I only briefly got to play this one through a friend when I was younger. I had the NES version, which was awesome, but I was always fascinated by a portable Double Dragon. So I decided to go back and try it out.
It's a pretty faithful port all things considered. It does run a little slow, which is to be expected for a Game Boy game but the action is mostly intact.
There's never more than 2 or 3 enemies on screen at a time, so you don't really get overwhelmed unless you get stuck in between enemies. They also included weapons, which rocks. In just the first 2 levels I encountered an oil drum, baseball bat, a box of some sort and a whip(which I didn't grab). Oh and some guy threw a grenade at me at one point lol
Everyone's favorite bad guy Abobo is here as the first boss fight as well and will kick the living crap out of you if you stand in front of him.
I encountered a little platforming, which I'm not a fan of in beat 'em up games but it wasn't too bad. I'd wager it gets worse though.
Sound FX and music are fine for Game Boy. This one doesn't fall into the ear bleed category of many handheld games of the time.
Anyway I just kind of wanted to show a little bite sized chunk of a lesser known version of Double Dragon.
Do you have any memories of this game? Please share in the comments below, I love reading that stuff.
Thanks for watching!
