Previously, Heorot and Carver became visible after bringing the Dream Dew back to the enigmatic Madame Luca. They have a new permanent party member: Milly, the Mysterious Girl. Storywise, the next matter of business is to take the ferry over to Somnia.

But first, the party goes down to check out the underground Casino in Port Haven (time 0:30). There is a nice, jazzy casino theme in this game.

After chatting with the other occupants, they dump their gold on casino tokens (time 3:15). Twenty gold coins per token ... not bad. Certainly not as bad as the original NES Dragon Warrior IV, where each token cost two hundred. Then, they start playing the green slot machines. Note that it is a good idea to save before gambling and then save again after a decent win. That way, if you begin losing too much, you can reset and try again. You can easily get back to the start of town by zooming to Port Haven, even from inside the Casino.

Once you build up enough tokens, the red machine is obviously the best to use. Maxing your bet on this machine offers the greatest risk but also the greatest reward. On the max bet, I like to reset after losing about 10,000.

There is a decent jackpot at 30:10: 30,000 tokens for 4 watermelons. Another is at 44:51: 15,000 tokens for 4 bells.

After the party has accumulated over 60,000 tokens, it is time to spend some of them (time 52:51). Sadly, there are no overpowered Metal King Swords or Gringham Whips here, as there were in DQ5. However, there are Dragon Shields and Platinum Mail. These will serve Heorot and Carver quite nicely for a very long time. There are also helpful Magic Waters and Yggdrasil Leaves. For converting tokens back to gold, Silk Tuxedos serve quite nicely. The party buys 10 Silk Tuxedoes, which will translate to 26,250 gold (time 58:02). Not bad for an hour's work!

Next, the party will revisit Wellshire, where some unfortunate events are in progress.
