*– GAME OVERVIEW –*
_Dragon Slayer I_ for the Game Boy is an overhead action role-playing game (ARPG). It was ported by Nihon Falcom and published by Epoch. The game was released in Japan on August 12, 1990.
• Developer Nihon Falcom first brought _Dragon Slayer (ドラゴンスレイヤー)_ – its original title – to the NEC PC-8801 home computer in Japan on September 10, 1984.
◦ The game was designed by Yoshio Kiya.
◦ It is often considered to be the first true action role-playing game.
◦ In addition to being ported to the Game Boy, it was also adapted for various Japanese home computers, and a remake is included in JVC's _Falcom Classics (ファルコムクラシックス)_ (1997) for the Sega Saturn (SAT).
• _Dragon Slayer_ began the _Dragon Slayer_ series, a banner that encompasses a number of popular Nihon Falcom titles, including _Xanadu (ザナドゥ): Dragon Slayer II_ (1985), _Dragon Slayer IV: Drasle Family (ドラゴンスレイヤーIV ドラスレファミリー)_ (1987) – localized in North America as _Legacy of the Wizard_ (1989) – and _Sorcerian (ソーサリアン)_ (1987).
• Along with competitors Xtalsoft's _Heart of Phantasm (夢幻の心臓, Mugen no Shinzou)_ and T&E Soft's _Hydlide (ハイドライド)_ (both 1984), _Dragon Slayer_ laid the groundwork for franchises such as Nintendo's _The Legend of Zelda (ゼルダの伝説)_ – [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXeuWoBp40mkojF8fgRfBulTB8FAqx61L] – and Nihon Falcom's own _Ys (イース)._
• The music featured in _Dragon Slayer I_ is Antonín Dvořák's "Slavonic Dances, Op. 46, No. 7".
• _Dragon Slayer I_ spawned an exclusive Game Boy sequel, _Dragon Slayer Gaiden: Nemuri no Oukan (ドラゴンスレイヤー外伝 眠りの王冠)_ (1992).
