Welcome to my playthrough of _Zelda II: The Adventure of Link_ (game region: Japan) (game version: v1.1) – also called _THE LEGEND OF ZELDA 2: Link no Bouken (THE LEGEND OF ZELDA 2 リンクの冒険,_ lit. _The Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link)_ on the game box – for the Nintendo Family Computer Disk System (abbreviated to FDS), commonly known as the Famicom Disk System, an add-on for the Nintendo Family Computer (FC) or Famicom, the Japanese equivalent of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

*– VIDEO INTRODUCTION –*

This playthrough shows:

• a no-death run;
• the location of every Heart and Magic Container, item, Link Doll and spell.

The first time I visit Kasuto, I miss the writing on the wall in one of the empty houses. I revisit the town later – [as seen at 3:12:47] – and find the clue.

The timestamps for each different section can be found in the comments section below (and not in the video description box due to the character limit).

*– GAME PATCH(ES) –*

English Translation
Released By: columbo
Patch Version: 2.33

The game is modified with an English translation patch. It can be downloaded from ROMhacking.net at – [https://www.romhacking.net/translations/3177/].

I am not sure if the garbled Princess Zelda seen at the ending – [at 3:56:59] – is an error on my part or the fault of the translation patch.

*– GAME OVERVIEW –*

_Zelda II: The Adventure of Link_ for the Famicom Disk System is a side-scrolling action role-playing game (RPG) with platforming elements. It was developed by Nintendo Research & Development No. 4 (Nintendo R&D4) and published by Nintendo on January 14, 1987, in Japan. The game was released in Japan on January 14, 1987, less than a year after the original release of _The Legend of Zelda._

• Shigeru Miyamoto – co-creator of _The Legend of Zelda_ – wanted _Zelda II: The Adventure of Link_ to be fundamentally different from its predecessor.
◦ The game's emphasis on platforming and role-playing bears little resemblance to the first or later entries in the _The Legend of Zelda_ series.

• In _Zelda II: The Adventure of Link,_ Link sets out to awaken Princess Zelda (not the same Zelda from _The Legend of Zelda),_ who has fallen under a sleeping spell.
◦ Until 2017's _The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,_ this entry was technically the only direct sequel to _The Legend of Zelda,_ as all other titles in the series are either prequels or take place in an alternate reality. (Currently, _The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom_ serves as the final chapter in the overall continuity.)

• There are several (minor) differences between the Famicom Disk System version of _Zelda II: The Adventure of Link_ and the NES port.
◦ The additional sound chip in the Famicom Disk System enhances some of the music (especially the title song), the monster icons on the overworld map are different and the leveling system is changed. For other differences between versions, see The Cutting Room Floor at – [https://tcrf.net/Zelda_II:_The_Adventure_of_Link/Regional_Differences].
