Dragon Warrior II [NES] Playthrough #06, From Cannock to Hamlin: The Friendly Dog
This is video #06 in my Dragon Warrior II playthrough. Now that the Prince of Midenhall, Heorot, and the Prince of Cannock, Talint, have joined forces, it is time to head south to the Kingdom of Moonbrooke. Remember that place from the game's opening scenes? To get there, the duo heads to Cannock Shrine southwest of Cannock Castle.
If Heorot had been alone, the guards would not have let him through to the tunnel. To get through to the Moonbrooke area, all you have to do is head all the way south, go west, and take the stairs up. The party will emerge on the northern peninsula of the southern continent. The enemies here will be a little stronger, particularly the Magicians, Centipods, and Magidrakees. Those Centipods are nasty with their high defense. The party should follow the grasslands on the western side of the peninsula south until he reaches the town of Hamlin.
In Hamlin (time index 3:55), not all is as it seems, as one townsperson points out. For instance, the town does not seem to have a rat problem. One townsperson talks about the Cloak of Wind in a tall tower. The weapon shop here offers the next equipment upgrades, but wow, is it expensive! A wizard in the northeast quadrant of town allows you to save. It is a good idea to talk to him because it will let the party return here with a Wing of the Wyvern or the Return spell.
Also, note the dog that will follow the party around if they talk to him. What a friendly little girl.
After one battle, the party has enough Gold to trade in Talint's Chain Sickle for an Iron Spear (time index 6:53). He is going to be stuck with this thing for the rest of the game. Yeah, his weapon selection is sorely lacking in this version of the game.
It isn't long before Talint reaches Level 7 (time index 7:40) and Heorot reaches Level 10 (time index 9:35).
After a little more time, Talint reaches Level 8 (time index 10:30) and learns Stopspell. That will make those Magicians a bit more manageable.
When they have enough money, they trade in Heorot's Chain Mail for a Full Plate Armor (time index 11:50).
The duo is now strong enough to brave Moonbrooke Castle to the southwest.
Thanks for watching!
