Dragon Warrior II [NES] Playthrough #03, Town of Leftwyne; Cannock Castle
This is video #03 in my Dragon Warrior II playthrough. At Level 5, my young hero, Heorot, heads west from Midenhall to the town of Leftwyne. Along the way there, be careful of the swampland. Like the original game, the swampland causes damage.
Leftwyne is west of a small mountain range (time index 1:40). One person indicates that the Cannock Castle is to the north. Good advice. There is plenty of useful new equipment available here. Hopefully, you can afford the Leather Shield at 90 Gold. The hero also wants the Chain Sickle and the Chain Mail that are available.
One townsperson warns of poison. Unfortunately, you can get poisoned in this game. Even worse, simply sleeping in the Inn will not cure it.
The only problem with Leftwyne is that you cannot save here. This is a non-issue if you are playing on an emulator, but if you are playing au naturel, you will have to trek back to Midenhall or on to Cannock in order to save. Fortunately, Cannock is not far.
The new equipment at Leftwyne requires the hero to hunt some more for Gold. In the early part of this game, I generally find myself hunting more for Gold than for levels. This is because the levels come naturally when you're going for the Gold.
After a few minutes, Heorot reaches Level 6 (time index 3:50).
A few minutes later, Heorot has enough Gold to return to Leftwyne and buy a Chain Sickle (time index 5:05).
Before long, he begins trekking north towards Cannock Castle (time index 6:35). It is pretty close, in fact. After hunting outside the castle a little bit, the hero goes in to explore Cannock. There are several people to talk to here. Unfortunately, the hero's cousin, Prince Talint of Cannock, is not here. He has gone east to the Spring of Bravery to test himself. It sounds like he is not as good with heavy armour and weapons, but he is good with magic. So, Heorot has to head to the Spring of Bravery to try to rendezvous with Talint.
After a little more hunting, the hero reaches Level 7 (time index 12:40). Before too long, he has earned enough Gold to go back to Leftwyne and buy the Chain Mail (time index 13:28). The Leather Armor sells for just over 110 Gold, so you can factor that into your hunting.
Next, Heorot prepares not just to go to the Spring of Bravery but to go to the Lake Cave to the west.
Thanks for watching!
