Dropping a MILLION Grains of Sand Onto My Custom PIKMIN 3 Deluxe Switch Dock Plate?!
The explorers Alph, Brittany and Charlie from the game ”Pikmin 3 Deluxe“ need our help. In this video we help them find all Pikmin, search for food and defeat enemies.
In cooperation with Nintendo I had the opportunity to test out the newly-released Pikmin 3 Deluxe and now, I present it to you.
Pikmin is a relatively unknown Nintendo franchise and I learned about it by accident some years ago. The game mechanics are pretty unique and probably everyone with a great need for exploration will enjoy them. A free demo of Pikmin 3 Deluxe is available in the Nintendo eShop.
For this artwork I used Posca paint pens to paint it onto a plexiglass plate for my PDP Nintendo Switch Dock Shield. As always, I used a paint brush in order to achieve nice blending for the shadings.
The icing on the cake was creating a background with sand and some stones, that were cut-out from a colored foil. Captain Alph’s helmet was made with ModPodge Dimensional Magic. This has a pretty cool effect in my opinion and I’m pretty satisfied with the results. 😊

Review of „Pikmin 3 Deluxe“:
Pikmin 3 Deluxe is a strategy-based game in a pretty unique style. In a nutshell, the story background story can be explained like this: You, the captain of a spaceship, are on a mission to another planet for finding food. This planet is called PNF-404 and is kinda earth-like. There live Pikmin, that are little creatures looking like weird vegetables with flowers on them. They follow you and you can throw them around so that they can do certain things for you. They fight enemies (giant bugs, birds, etc.) for you, carry food back to your spaceship and open you pathways by building bridges or destroying walls.
I enjoy the story of Pikmin 3 Deluxe, because it is not as shallow as most Nintendo games, e.g. Super Mario games. On your home planet there is not enough food and so they sent out search missions to other planets. When three captains, named Alph, Brittany and Charlie, are on their mission to a planet full of fruits, their ships crashes and the crew is separated over different areas. (Of course, all of them survive – it’s a Nintendo game^^)
After the crash, it is your goal to find your crew members, collect food and repair your spaceship to fly back home.
I really like the well-designed characters, because you can always see whether they are friend or foe, where their weak points are and so on. The bosses are not that hard to defeat, but you can easily make them more challenging by taking less Pikmin with you or increasing the game’s difficulty level. The levels are well designed, because they are mainly large areas and you are free to explore them. There are paths that you cannot use at the beginning and you have to come back later in the game. I had a lot of fun exploring the levels and solving the puzzles.
In the end, I can say that Pikmin 3 Deluxe is a fun game for destressing, since exploring the world and listening to the soundtrack is pretty relaxing. Speaking of the soundtrack, I have to mention that it is not as great as other recent games, such as Paper Mario or Pokémon.
What I don’t like is that it is a pretty short game, even when you do all side missions. Also, keep in mind that this a port from Wii U and not a newly-developed – but slightly improved – version of the existing game. It’s cool, however, that in this version a co-op mode is included.
Nevertheless, Pikmin 3 Deluxe is totally worth checking out and you can do that by downloading the free demo in the Nintendo eShop.
If you like the gameplay you can always consider buying the game. More information can be found here: https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/pikmin-3-deluxe-switch
