DUKE NUKEM 3D LET'S PLAY (#35): Lethal Lava Land (Super Mario 64)
15There are so many new maps coming out! Sneaking right past me while I'm over here oblivious! Shame! So, to make up for my blindness to new Duke, we'll jump back into ToiletDuck64's Super Mario 64 Duke Series with the newly released Lethal Lava Land. I expect more odd lore of the Aliens attempt to dominate the Mushroom Kingdom, and a lot of TROR (True-Room-Over-Room), a trick to make more 3D environments in the Build Engine, helping Duke Nukem 3D feel even more in-line with the Nintendo 64 game this level pays homage to.
Afterwards, we take a look at Martin "JacketAU" Down's first ever level: Impregnation Station. This humble start to level editing for Duke Nukem 3D was a quick one, but exactly what we want to see, more people jumping in and building! Very excited to see how they grow from here and another new map for 2024!
Then, CK3D snuck back in with his 2022 map, Turnpike, inspired by a map from the Shrapnel City episode from the original Duke Nukem 3D. Visually striking, with great scale, but was pretty tough with combat wise, a fun challenge.
What we do in these streams is showcase user created content to show what kind of passion and creativity this niche community has crafted to show others what Duke Nukem 3D has to offer for any Retro Boom Shooter FPS lovers, or even old Duke Fans (like myself) who may have not dipped their toes into the user content world. Additionally, we take a look at how these 2.5D games create their 3D world from a level design perspective as I try to learn from those who came before me since I'm currently making a map of my own for Duke Nukem 3D using Mapster32, the included level editor for eDuke32.
