DUKE NUKEM 3D LET'S PLAY (#37): Tick Tock Clock (Mario 64 Inspired)
16ToiletDuck64 keeps pumping out levels for his Super Mario 64 map series leading us to today's 2024 released map, Tick Tock Clock! The real exciting part from a map editing perspective is that this contains around 20 True-Room-Over-Room (TROR) layers, which is a trick the Build Engine uses to allow more 3D geometry in a 2.5D engine using the Mapster32 level editor. Don't know what any of that means? That's okay! Part of the fun of these streams is not just playing through the maps, but discussing how they are made and how you (Yes, you!) can make maps yourself!
The second map was by Mike Norvak called Nightshade Army from 2010. It was a visually striking map, with a great open-ended key card hunt. We did run into some collision issues with the current eDuke32 build we used.
What we do in these streams is showcase user created content to show what kind of passion and creativity this niche community has crafted to show others what Duke Nukem 3D has to offer for any Retro Boom Shooter FPS lovers, or even old Duke Fans (like myself) who may have not dipped their toes into the user content world. Additionally, we take a look at how these 2.5D games create their 3D world from a level design perspective as I try to learn from those who came before me since I'm currently making a map of my own for Duke Nukem 3D using Mapster32, the included level editor for eDuke32.
