Made another cosplay walk through video!
Not sure if people like this type of content but I wanted to make more of these especially for cosplays that I worked hard on and have a lot of sentimental value to me, kind of like a cosplay video diary. Does that make sense?

Made this costume on and off from 2013 to 2016, had the very fortunate pleasure to shoot this with my close friend @ambokiko as lord liu shan in August of 2016.

In the Philippines, cosplayers mostly turn to EVA foam / rubbersheet for their props , weapons, and other cosplay paraphernalia. I am also very familiar with that material, but in Japan, cheap EVA foam is not easily available (at least where I live) so I had to turn to other methods.
Learned a lot while making this. I did not enjoy it, but I learned and I am proud of my output LOL.
Back in the early 2010s, I was not aiming to make a cosplay channel so it did not occur to me to take more videos and photos.

Looking at these photos now in 2023, I think I did well for this project but I can definitely see where I can improve more. There are a lot of things that I missed back then, which at that time didn't really seem obvious. hahahaha

I arrived in Japan in 2013, this is the first time I got to know of the World Cosplay Summit and I was inspired to learn more crafting so that someday I can also stand at the biggest stage for competitive cosplay in the world to represent the Philippines.
That dream is still not yet dead.
My crafting techniques are now outdated, I need to learn new ones, and at the same time find balance between my adult life and my passion.
Someday, i still hope to be a representative of the Philippines to the World Cosplay Summit.

I did not get to mention this in the video but another reason my xing cai cosplay is so memorable to me is because this was the first cosplay I took back to the philippines after not coming home for 3 years.
As you can see, the sword and shield are huge. I expected to pay extra for the luggage, but not for it being oversized. In total, this thing costed me 20, 000JPY to bring on the airplane.
Good thing I was raised in the Philippines, this meant that I like to arrive at the airport VERY early.
The box that contained my sword and shield had to be opened and examined multiple times, and I had to explain about cosplay to the airport staff.
So much time and money wasted hahahah but I still love this cosplay hahahaha
