Edius HQX Codec By Grass Valley - It's A Very Smart Professional Broadcast Production Codec
18In this video I'm test a particular function of the HQX coded by Grass Valley, which is found inside Edius and other GV software products.
HQX is a two part codec. The HQ element is up to 10 Bit 4:2:2 1080 and the HQX element is up to 10 Bit 4:2:2 4K at typical TV and film frame rates and sizes.
The HQX codec can also go beyond typical rec.709 use and the above video standards mentioned above, depending on the host software being used. Further implementations are possible which could see this codec develop further into video standards of the future.
The HQX codec is a professional standard broadcast and production codec that can be used for ingest via the appropriate video interface using the likes of composite , component, HDMI & SDI etc.
It can also be used internally within Edius as transcode codec option and can be used in a wider TV and film workflow as an intermediate, production and mastering codec
In this particular example of my use with HQX, I'm testing the smart nature of the codec. In other terminology this function may also be described as smart rendering or lossless editing/rendering.
As I will have missed out technical information about HQX and its other abilities. If anyone from GV comes across this video and would like to add further information, I'd be more than happy to include it in this description.
