Sony A7iii external mic test using a Clippy EM172 in place of the internal mics
This is a very simple audio test for the Sony A7iii. What we've done here is to place a Clippy EM172 omni lavalier microphone by MicBooster.com near to where the Sony A7iii has its internal microphones.
This is just see what the sound is like from a high quality sensitive lavalier when used as an external alternative to the internal mics but not placed in a traditional lav position.
The reason for doing this is simply to see if the Clippy EM172 sounds better. With the Clippy EM172 being omni-directional, just like the A7iii's internal mics, it's fairly much a direct comparison. The only difference is that the Clippy EM172 is obviously mono compared to the Sony's stereo configuration for its internals. Personally, I prefer recording mono for dialogue as I much prefer dialogue being anchored to the centre of the stereo field.
I'll also be uploading a similar test soon but with the internal microphones of the Sony A7iii.
The settings for the camera were all manual except for white balance, which was set to auto to see how it handled colour during the warm light from golden hour.
Special thanks to Threlly for letting me use his camera again and for helping me with the test and setup.
