Our parent's condition into us an egoic identity built around our name, which in time develops into various things that become like extensions of ourselves, like possessions, achievements, and groups we identify ourselves in terms of, which we build our sense of self around.

This not only take the form of things we identify as having, but also things we identify as lacking. For example we might identify ourselves on one hand as having earnt wealth or status through hard work or talent, or on the other hand as victims of oppression, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

But what if politics and it's many dualistic divides are just a collective manifestation of these same kind of egoic identities, insecurities and compensations?

It has been said that people suffer due to the boxes they are placed into due to social conditioning, but what if very movements which believe and purport that they stand for the oppressed, and against such conditioning, end up reinforcing the very egoic identities they seek to overturn by relating to it in *terms of* the identities they say are conditioned into us?

Is there another way, a non-dualistic way?

This episode contains a reading from A New Earth, by Eckhart Tolle. Published by Penguin Books, 2018 edition.
