Elite: Dangerous – Commander WJFox – 2 August 3301
I recently began my second long range exploration. The first was in the Pleiades Nebula a few weeks back. This time, I wanted to visit the Pipe Nebula, which lies roughly the same distance from Earth (400ly), but in the opposite direction. To maximise my jump range, I stripped all weapons from my ship, downgraded to a lighter armour, and even got rid of my shield generator. This boosted my jump range from 15 to 21 light years. I have to admit, the journey has been rather error-prone so far. The first incident occurred when I met Dean Eaketts about halfway to the nebula. He accidentally boosted into me (shown in this video), and the collision damaged my ship’s hull. I went back to the nearest outpost for repairs, then headed out again. But when I reached the Pipe Nebula, I dropped out of supercruise too abruptly and my hull integrity was weakened. Yet another incident occurred when scooping fuel at a star (2nd part of video), I got too close and lost further hull integrity. Having explored the Pipe sector, I’m now heading for the Crescent Nebula – a far more distant region (~5000ly) in the galactic west. But given the incidents so far, I’m having serious doubts about reaching there intact, and will probably have to turn back at some point. Dean is apparently heading for the North America nebula.
