The departing commander of Headquarters British Forces Germany - the military community's local authority - has said that more work is needed to ensure adequate support for the forces population as troops leave the country over the next few years.

Major General Nick Caplin also expressed his sadness about the British forces' withdrawal from Germany but said that it should be achieved in an orderly manner.

General Caplin was speaking shortly before handing over to his successor Major General John Henderson.
