There is an increasing need for more Afghan National Army soldiers to be trained as combat medics as they continue to take the lead in more and more operations in Helmand.
Over the last six weeks warriors at Camp Shorabak have been taught trauma care for the front line. Despite few being able to read or write - and even with little knowledge of anatomy or physiology -- they have been learning fast.
Now - thanks to the Brigade Advisory Group Medical Team - they are now qualified vocational medics.
At the start of Herrick 16 only 40% of the ANA warriors had had any medical training, today that number has more than doubled with 85% now able to carry out basic treatment in the field.
