A soldier from British Forces Germany who was killed in a parachuting accident last weekend has been named.

Corporal Stephen Wall from 35 Engineer Regiment in Paderborn died following the incident at the Rhine Army Parachuting Association in Bad Lippspringe.

He had only recently returned from Op Herrick 15 where he was a section commander for the construction of the Malvern Bridge near Gereshk, the longest military bridge built on operations since World War Two.

His Officer Commanding Major Simon Carvell said Corporal Wall was "an outstanding soldier, a natural leader and a warm hearted character with whom every man in my Squadron wanted to work."

Known as Stevie to his friends, Corporal Wall had soon been due to promote to Sergeant and had only just returned to Germany after providing security at the London Olympics. Lieutenant Peter Dobson said he was a "large and lovable character" who was respected by all.

Captain Adam Loots, who also worked with him during Op Herrick 15 said Corporal Wall "lead by example, setting the highest standards." But that he "remained dedicated to his boys."

Corporal Wall was an avid skydiver and was also passionate about his young family. He leaves behind his wife Shelley and his daughter Kci-Leigh.

The Ministry of Defence have said that an investigation into his death is currently ongoing.
