Etrian Odyssey HD Boss 4: Cernunnos (Second Stratum Boss)

"hey that seems like kind of a drastic jump in difficulty" well Ren is right next to the boss arena and will fully heal you if you talk to her.
Cernunnos opens the boss fight by summoning two Curollers which can boost his defense and will heal him for roughly 120 HP. This makes Cernunnos 2750 HP pool actually a lot deeper than it seems. So why wouldn't you want to kill the curollers first? well if you do it'll start spamming Gaze which is a highly accurate instant kill attack, and by highly accurate I mean 99%, Otherwise Cernunnos just uses physical attacks either Horn rush which hits a single target for over 100 damage without defenses up, whirlhit which suck and only does like 30 damage to the party. Then at 50% HP it gains access to Combo which is 2-4 hits against random party members for roughly 80-100 damage. Then at 25% HP he's scripted to resummon the curollers if both of them are dead, at this point he no longer has Gaze in his moveset so this is your chance to take him out. However beware that on set turns his AI will use counter which as you can imagine counters any physical attacks you do, a bit of a problem when my only elemental attacker is Ringo.
The other part of the challenge comes from playing the other etrian odyssey games where the way to fight the boss is changed up dramatically, no longer having Gaze and being able to summon unlimited curollers after going below half HP.
Either way with this boss defeated we can move on to the third stratum.
