The VO2max (maximal oxygen uptake) is the gold standard measurement in all fitness related goals. The test is usually the first time an average joe/jane has exercised to a true maximal capacity. Not only does it give you a cool number in mL/kg/min, but the data can tell you what your absolute target heart rate zone for exercise and recovery are, and give you the insight to know how much time is required between each set of weight training. Finally, it gives practitioners like myself data to educate you on your true nutritional goals and guidelines.
