Exile OCS & AGA (Amiga) - A Playguide and Review - by LemonAmiga.com
Exile is an open world puzzle and action game published by Audiogenic for the 8 bit systems and also the ST and the Amiga. I used to be able to get far with it, so lets see if I can remember a few things.
Production Notes:
===============
Ripped: 22 June 2016 (OCS and AGA)
Edited: 6 April (narration) and 22nd-26 May 2017
As usual, the dates above give some indication of how long it takes to make a show - these days about a year! After ripping, I delve into all the research surrounding the game and the people who made it, and find out the history as far as I can, and finding some mug shots for the captions if at all possible. The Jeremy Smith confusions are all over the internet; one review going so far as to mix up all the Jeremy Smiths, but then to say "oh, but he also died in 1992". I can only hope that the real Jeremy get to see the AGA version before his passing.
Exile probably wouldnt stand up in a 3D environment, for one thing the puzzles would soon get boring. And also, without the surrounding screen area, the player wouldnt necessarily see through walls to the next area. This is 2D old school style, and even more amazing when you think about the BBC and Acorn versions, having to squeeze a massive maze (to me it looks as huge as resident evil 4!) into just one load. Yep 32K folks.
I would say I covered the first 10% of the game in the guide. After the doors are unlocked with the keys, you eventually find a wind tunnel, where you need to be holding rocks to weight you down. There are several sections accessible in the wind tunnel, but its easy to get it wrong and forget to pick up the rock, and then you have to reload because the game becomes impossible. You can then blow your way into where Triax appears to the far left of the map, and reveal some place where I got stock, as there seemed to be nothing to do?
I say 'remember-all' teleport device in the vid, but this isnt what the device is called, just my way of saying what it does. I think you can save 10 positions to memory, and you can always retrace your steps back to the start ship at any point. As you can probably tell, I have fond memories of this game and the creatures drawn in the manual, and the atmosphere is unique.
I had hoped to get in front with everything by the time I run this vid, but no more progress has been made, and my time is diverted all over the place most days. I had hoped to start the next batch of L64 games reviews, but its looking like I wont have time to make a start. This is due to work, and at last I am heading out of the financial danger zone and into stability, and I'm hoping to achieve 2K points (pounds) in the bank soon (after several re-tries and attempts at this level - After that we go to World 2 - Security).
