An abandoned gold mine sits high atop Granite Mountain in the Anza-Borrego Desert. We hiked three miles up the old mining road that clings precariously to the side of the mountain and were rewarded with a remote mining site with a few tunnels and lots of mining relics. This was the Redman Mine based on an old sign found in the area. There is absolutely no historical information on this mine, though. Interestingly enough, there WAS a Redman Mine about 10 miles away in Banner, CA in Chariot Canyon. Not sure if this mine on Granite Mountain was named for the prospector.
