Fallout 3 Playthrough (No Commentary) Part 29: Oasis
This is a casual playthrough of Fallout 3, Karma decisions will be made according to what I feel is right.
Oasis is definitely one of the more unique quests, not only is it one of the few locations which doesn’t look like it was nuked to hell and back, but it also features a character from the older Fallout Games.
Harold is an NPC who appears in all of the previous games, including Brotherhood of Steel. A former human turned mutant/ghoul who lived through the day the bombs fell and beyond, at this point he is over 200 years old.
The quest presents you with various moral decisions which, with exception to one, is neither good or evil. Harold wants you to kill him as he’s sick of being a tree with a bunch of idiots for cult followers, the cult leader wants you to keep the tree from spreading throughout the wasteland while his wife wants you to do the opposite.
None of these choices gives good nor evil karma so it's really up to you to decide what is the right thing to do. I kind of prefer stuff like this where the player themselves decides what is right and wrong rather than the game deciding for you.
Naturally since this is fallout, you can be a dick and set Harold on fire, in which he dies painfully and the cult will turn hostile since he won't be able to tell them his true intention with bringing you here, this choice naturally gives negative karma.
Finally, we collect enough quantum to finish the Nuka-Cola challenge! And that means we are done with the sidequests (or at least all the ones that have quests attached to them) and can now continue on with the story.
In this part, We help a tree man by killing him, while his cult of idiots doesn't bear grudge on us.
