Welcome to Game Play. A series, of sorts, where I check out various video games and share my experiences with you.

Today we're taking a look at Fallout 76 (Xbox One X).

There is no denying that Fallout 76 has had a rough ride since its launch back in 2018. By far, the fallout and backlash have been more than deserved when considering the amount of less than honest practices and broken promises made by Bethesda Softworks.

And yet despite these undeniable issues, I still enjoy the game. I find it a relaxing experience where I get to explore a massive open world, fight super mutants and various creatures while taking in the sights and sounds of the wasteland.

To me, the wasteland is quite beautiful and the colors are rich and vibrant. The sounds are dynamic and the musical score is excellent.

Not all is positive, however. I've come across multiple bugs, a few were even game breaking, and I truly miss the NPC's. These characters would definitely bring some needed (artificial) life to the otherwise beautiful world, so I really hope to see them added somewhere down the line. Finally, I cannot deny the negative impact of Bethesda's many wrongdoings. It truly hurts the game when the developer gets caught up in yet another controversy.

In conclusion I still enjoy the game despite its many, many issues and flaws. Why? Because I'm an idiot. Well, mostly because I'm a fool, but also because I truly love the exploration element of the game. I can spend hours on end simply gazing upon the beautiful world and feel like I'm a part of it, but I deeply wish that they had included proper NPC's to make the experience seem more like a Fallout game.

Fallout 76 isn't for everyone. That's an understatement. But I believe that you'll find a degree of entertainment value if you dare to give the game a chance. I did and I've spent more than 50 hours in-game at this point, and for me it has earned back it's admission price.

Note: the game was recorded on Xbox One X to an external hard drive. No post-work has been done. Furthermore, if the colors seem a bit off or washed out, I reckon it's due to it being recorded in HDR.
