Mortal Kombat 11 (Xbox One X) - Gameplay
Welcome to Game Play. A series, of sorts, where I check out various video games and share my experiences with you.
Today we're taking a look at Mortal Kombat 11 (Xbox One X).
Mortal Kombat is back for more, and this time the developers are messing around with time. Coming from MK XL, MK11 does not disappoint in terms of gameplay, graphics and story. I've been playing through the campaign, and the story was rather interesting. It had the perfect length of about 6 or 7 hours with amazingly done cutscenes and interesting events. Obviously, it has its flaws and plotholes but overall I truly enjoyed the story of MK11.
In terms of gameplay, MK11 delivers a solid experience. Hitting 60 FPS in a fighting game is a must, and Netherrealm Studios have absolutely nailed it. The game runs perfectly smooth, even during more intense sequences. The dynamic 4K resolution only adds to the experience, making the characters truly look spectacular. The sights and sounds of the game are of the highest quality. Really an awesome game.
I'm not sure how I feel about the Towers of Time, however. According to nearly everyone who's played it, those towers can become quite frustrating with unreasonable challenges and grind. So far, however, I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary, but it's definitely on my radar as a potential problem somewhere down the line. Also, I haven't come across any microtransactions yet, but that would also become a potential problem in the future.
I could go on, but this is Mortal Kombat. It's everything you like with some additions and a few subtractions here and there. I'm not a fan of the removal of the classic costumes for fighters such as Kitana and Jade due to making the game more realistic, when you can shoot people's eyes out and yet they still remain fully capable of fighting with only minor scratches. However, I ultimately think that the characters look great and overall I think the game is worth investing your time and ressources.
The game was recorded directly on the Xbox One X to an external HDD. Not postwork has been done. Note: at around halfway through, I experienced a strange error during a cutscene. To the viewers, you'll notice a slight pause during that cutscene. Not sure what it was, but it never happened again afterwards. The game was recorded in HDR so it might look a bit dark on non-HDR screens and monitors.
