Here's a hot take: Jeff Lemire's kind of a hack. Obviously, that's not true, but I do feel like his style of writing so many things all at once has kind of caught up to him, and we've seen some definite disappointments from him.
Family Tree is definitely one of them, and is actually one of the worst things he's ever put out, in my opinion.
The first reason for that, I think, is the fact that it was kind of presented as a horror series, and it has absolutely no horror elements to it. This is mostly an action series where an old man kills a bunch of people for 60% of the time, then a young man kills a bunch of people for 30% of the time, and in between all of that, a girl turns into a tree.
Which is by far, the most interesting aspect of the whole story, but it's sadly left unexplored, because Lemire kind of decides to just end the series all of a sudden.
I talked about my disappointment in his Sweet Tooth: The Return series in my previous video, and I have to say, this is even worse.
