Far Cry 2: Redux is a brand-new mod by BigTinz that dramatically overhauls this classic Ubisoft game. What started out as a simple bugfix to restore Jackal tape playback and A.I. behaviors has become an entire revamp on-par with the various mods for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. No longer are sniper rifles the only viable weapons; pretty much every gun kills in 2-to-4 shots to the chest or 1 headshot now even from long range. The stealth system has also seen a dramatic buff, as the Camo Suit and MP5-SD now work as originally intended instead of being complete jokes. Additionally, the Flare Gun now shares the Machete slot while the IED is on Special instead of Secondary.

To counteract this, enemies are much deadlier and smarter. They are given a wider variety of weapons like Flamethrowers and Molotovs as well as Act II weapons like the FAL and USAS-12 from the start. Compounding the difficulty further is the nerfed map which no longer magically displays your position in real-time nor displays Guard Outposts before you scout them. This alone might be a deal-breaker for some, but once you get used to the GPS and looking for landmarks, Far Cry 2 becomes a hell of a lot more realistic and immersive than any other open-world game on the market.

Unfortunately, for as much work as BigTinz has poured into this project, the biggest flaws like Guard Outposts repopulating too quickly, limited Fast Travel, and stealthy Machete kills causing enemies to scream still remain. These are all inherently coded into the game, so the only way they'd ever get fixed is if Ubisoft remastered FC2 outright. It's really sad, because FC2:R is as close to perfection as we're ever gonna get. There's even upcoming content that will allow for a female playable character and toggle sprint.

I've made this video in the hopes of sparking interest in this fantastic mod as well as convincing BigTinz to package DSOAL similar to how the Halo SPV3 mod adopted it.
