This is a demonstration of Steam Audio's SOFA file support. SOFA, or Spatially Orientated Format for Acoustics, is a universal standard for storing HRIR data. These files are the key to truly immersing players into the gameworld, as the default "average head" presets are rarely good enough to do the job (looking at you, Google Resonance). Unfortunately, game developers neglect personalized HRTF even more than they neglect 3D positional audio to begin with. I can only hope that future games will allow users to use SOFA files, especially if personalized SOFA files from companies like Genelec take off.
