6When it comes to a 2012 video game shamelessly indulging in sheer pulp, Far Cry 3 is second only to Toshihiro Nagoshi's brilliantly stupid Binary Domain. The depressing pseudo-realism and earnest commentary on real-world problems which made Far Cry 2 such a startling and memorable experience is nowhere to be found in this wildly implausible tale of comic book villains, hilariously aggressive animals and sexy shamans. And yet, there's a real edge to the story of how protagonist Jason Brody falls deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole (indeed, Alice in Wonderland is quoted at key moments in the story, making this the second Ubisoft game of the year with a strong Lewis Carroll presence) and distances himself from the very people he's ostensibly trying to save. Twenty missions in, I'm still very interested in where the story goes next...
