Choshiro investigates the paintings left behind by someone who was afflicted with Moonlight Syndrome. The paintings and diaries speak of terrible things but as though it were something to celebrate. There is no doubt the woman in red with her face unseen in the paintings was Sakuya Haibara, Yo Haibara's older sister. It was clear Yo and Shigeto were indulging in a lot of research that also included inhumane experiments and treatments on patient, all in order to cure Sakuya. Choshiro remembers: He was year two years ago. The Rite of Descent which took place the same day as the Kagura had failed and Sakuya's mind was lost though her body still breathed. Yo Haibara continued to hide on the island two years after the incident. And Choshiro recalls seeing Sakuya rise from the lower levels of the sanitorium, her face warped, distorted. She was dead, and yet she wasn't. He couldn't... he musn't look at her face! Choshiro once again encountered her as he did two years prior, but now he couldn't run away. As he fends her off, he receives unexpected help from Sayaka Minazuki who tells him to give the mask fragment on Sakuya Haibara's bed to Ruka. And so once again, Choshiro met Ruka and hands her the fragment and continues to chase Yo Haibara. Whatever the reasons maybe, Yo and Shigeto Haibara performed unspeakable acts and must answer for them! The chase ends. And then, everything becomes clear....
