FE Hack Reviews #8: Dream of Five (Revisited) by AstraLunaSol [CH 7A] - Chipmunks Ahoy!
59The original running time of this video was 42 minutes, and none of it was something I thought was worth cutting out since it was all progress, so I decided to just speed up the entire video to make it into a more palatable 30 minute length.
Anyways, just a few things worth noting.
- This chapter is extremely dull, gameplay wise. The lack of a proper way to program thieves in fire emblem hacks really hurts this hack's challenge, since there's no reason to hurry after the chests. There ARE workarounds for this, but Astra doesn't want to use them because they all have drawbacks. Again, the game's only difficult if you're aiming for a low turn count.
- The chapter is way too god damn long. What's with this game and having bloated maps? Fire Emblem isn't a game built to have enormous maps. Long maps make restarts more punishing and frustrating than they need to be, and this map's length isn't justified by it's difficulty either. If you're going to design your game to favor LTCers, at least try and make it a reasonable length so that people don't get pissed off by the length. At least it's not as bad as FE6's Chapter 8, but I'm starting to think it just might get that bad at this rate.
- For those of you curious enough, I asked AstraLunaSol about Amelia's hair length. It's... really long. It reaches down to her knees. I think that's with her hair up in a ponytail even, which means it could be even longer when down. As much as my fetish for extremely long hair says this is awesome, it... kind of doesn't make sense. Would you honestly want your hair to be that long in battle? Hair of that length is heavy, and someone could just grab it, which is really dangerous in battle. I mean... if the setting justified this (IE: Longer hair = stronger magic, or maybe there are hair spells that make hair light, easy to manage, etc), I'd not mind it, but as it stands, Amelia's coming off as personality-vacant fetish fuel.
...God, why am I bitching about hair being too long of all things? I think I'm turning into a parody of myself. X_x
