FE3H Loop 3 (VW) Chapter 22 -- Fódlan's New Dawn + Epilogue
0This is it! The final FINAL battle (THIS ONE v3) of the Golden Deer story, Verdant Wind!
Plotwise, it kinda comes out of nowhere, but then again, Silver Snow's final chapter also kinda came out of nowhere, so, fine, whatever.
Nemesis and his 10 commanders are out for blood, so we're gonna give it to them. Mostly their own blood, though. This is my first time seeing the battle in any context, so it was fun trying to figure things out on the fly.
The short version is, these 10 commanders are the 10 Elites, and they're wielding dark copies of the Heroes' Relics. We've also got a poison swamp to deal with, which, okay, cool, great, just what I always wanted. (It's actually not a big deal, go figure!) What's more, if you look closely at Nemesis over there, you'll see he's got a magic barrier powered by the presence of the 10 Elites, so you definitely want to take them out. Also, they all have a unique skill that lets them recover health from the poison swamp! Great!
But I didn't get far by luck. I'm not about to let some centuries-old corpses stop me! I'm gonna free Fódlan from the shackles of its bloody history, leave these clowns in the dust, and usher in a new age of peace and understanding!
As far as strategy is concerned, I dunno, I just threw my superior units at them and made sure to keep my ground-based units out of the swamp. Looks like after defeating a certain number of the Elites, the swamp just disappears. I had a sneaking suspicion that the poison swamp would return (remember the water temple in FE7?) but if it does, I don't know when. I also refuse to look it up.
With Nemesis destroyed for good, we can finally, at long last, start the reconstruction of Fódlan. And who else to lead but Boyleth as the new king of a country made up of the former Alliance, Kingdom, and Empire? Claude, you see, has another office to hold: Prince of Almyra. Who saw that coming, am I right?
Anyway, all in all, I'm glad I finally played this route! It's my favorite of the ones recorded so far, and I appreciate finally, FINALLY getting all the details about who and what everything is. Of course, this version of the story leaves out the detail where Rhea is kinda-sorta Byleth's grandma. Oh well.
