So. Let's get some answers, shall we?

The "children of the goddess," are, well, descendants of Sothis herself. When she arrived in Fódlan, she brought advanced knowledge and stuff with her, and using her blood, she birthed a new people. Not only is Rhea one of those children, she's actually the last survivor. Also, she's the Immaculate One. Also also, she's actually Seiros herself. Y'know, the one the church is named for. So, uh, she's been around for a while. Those Who Slither In The Dark were people who, eventually, rejected Sothis's teachings and challenged her in war. Rhea apparently helped form the Empire in order to crush them. Thus, they were forced to flee underground. (Hey, remember when Thales said we couldn't be allowed to discover the secret of their bodies? It's probably because they don't share any lineage with surface-dwelling humans!)

See, here's the thing about Nemesis. He maybe kinda sorta stole Sothis's remains, and with the help of Those Who Slither In The Dark, turned them into the Sword of the Creator and the Crest Stone that activates its power. In fact, all the Heroes' Relics are made from the bones of Rhea's people, and the Crest Stones inside them are the hearts. Crests themselves? Those are the product of experimentation to imbue normal people with dragon blood. The fabled 10 Elites? Members of Nemesis' bandit gang. (Hey, remember when Macuil--I mean "The Wind Caller"--cursed the 10 Elites?)

That battle in Boyleth's dream at the very beginning of the game? That was the battle in which Rhea, then going by the name Seiros, got her revenge on Nemesis and took back the remains of her mother, transformed as they were. You see, Zanado got its "Red Canyon" nickname because Nemesis and company went their, wielding their gruesome new weapons, and slaughtered most of the rest.

That brings us to our dear Teach. We kinda knew this from Silver Snow, but Boyleth is the result of Rhea trying some half-cocked scheme to resurrect Sothis. Her plan was to implant Sothis's heart in a baby, and in time, make her consciousness take full control of the vessel. Of course, that didn't pan out, exactly. Well, the best laid plans of mice and men, and all that.

Anyway, uh, turns out they didn't really kill him! Or maybe TWSITD recovered his body and did some dark magicks on him. They just stuck a seal (read: techno-coffin and chains) on him, and you know those things never last. Now he's on the warpath, because he just knows where Seiros is and he's so MAD.

Well, time for a vibe check with the homies!
