Another showcase of Scias being really broken at this point of the challenge run.

Fantam is an odd boss. He's got as many as 5 different forms, shifting between which changes both his attack pattern (he can use the mean physical, Nose Dive, in all five) and his resistance to attacks of every type (physical / magical / breath). The player may however finish the fight early without seeing most of the phases. In a normal game with level-ups, this is especially easy to achieve seeing how Nina is almost guaranteed to know the Rejuvenate spell at this point, dealing heavy damage to the holy-weak boss in the physically-resistant form that he starts with.

I won't outline the exact mechanics of the boss's AI and damage properties here, but here's the gist of it: he starts quite big and is weak to magic but strong against physicals. Using magic on him makes him smaller and more resistant to magic while making him weaker to physicals, and vice versa - attacking him physically increases his size and makes magic progressively more effective than physicals with each physical strike. It seems like there's little difference whether you combo or not; each attack changes his size by one level.

Since I forewent learning (the rather pointless) Super Combo skill in the previous battle against Kahn, I felt I might as well dish out the necessary 5K combo damage here in order to force Una to tutor it to the party.

At first, I weaken the boss with two spells (cast by Ershin and Nina who are more durable than Ryu, albeit still susceptible to Nose Dive OHKOs without prior defensive boosts). This sends the boss into his second smallest form but not quite the tiniest one - this is important when we don't him to have a chance to use Ovum in the smallest form of his, as a character turned into an egg can spoil the strategy in more ways than one.

As I opt for an offensive strat yet again, Nina and Ershin face some danger of being KO'd, while Scias's exceptional base stats (for this point of the game) enable him to take more punishment than the rest - his water resistance helps him tank Frost spells too. While Scias is waiting for Focus to accumulate the maximum offensive boost in tandem with Rainbow Trout 2x (it's best to keep him in the active party on Guard instead of calling Ryu in because he doesn't mind any of the boss's attacks much), being hit by a physical and triggering a counterattack will not reset the Focus counter like it does in BoF 3 (where Focus is kind of weak tbqh), and the counter will actually hurt the boss with the Focus boost taken into account.

The reason why Ershin sets Scias up for the combo is because having Scias use ShiningBlade without a prelude doesn't register the final blow as a "combo" - something which is necessary if we want to learn Super Combo (I don't think it's that useful without a Ryu that actually grows as the game progresses, but we might as well learn one of the best abilities in the game anyway).
