In comparison to the previous boss, Rubicante, Demon Wall stands out first of all from the perspective of durability. While the fiery fiend had only 24K HP, Demon Wall boasts 99,999. It's also far less forgiving because reviving might not suffice to survive the phase when it approaches the party close enough to start spamming instant death (9999 damage to whoever is unlucky; Cecil has Draw Attacks in this case).
Fortunately, the Wall does nothing but counter magic with gradual petrify until then so the battle is won assuming we find a way to deal spectacular damage fast. 100K damage isn't a joke, surely, but we have the resources at hand.
Two things are important here: preparation and execution. Firstly, we must ensure everybody is able to set themselves up to hit like a wall of bricks; second, we must actually be fast with the input and make the correct decisions at the right time.
Kain has been given Adrenaline (Cid's final augment) before this fight. Placed in critical HP status, his attacks' damage increases significantly. This allows him to consistently match Edge's Shuriken spam in numbers. Cecil is lagging behind a little as we have Adrenaline and Poison Axe only for one person. Rydia's summons hurt quite a lot but she wastes turn charging and using Bluff. Rosa is a support unit here, especially in the opening, and her damage with Aim is insufficient to grant her Haste - there will be better use for the item.
Kain technically doesn't need the EXP since he rejoins at like lv. 53, but killing him is tricky because there really isn't any time to be using a calculator to count down the boss's monstrous HP - we need to be fast with the input at all times (most decisions are carried out at the first 2-3 turns of the battle).
In the worst case, everybody loses 1 level at most if Kain also eats up some of the boss's exp (and Demon Wall provides fabulous amounts of exp), and while that also matters, I'm convinced it won't stop me from sweeping the endgame with the strategies that I have in mind. Not worth the hassle IMO. And Kain DOES do deal like a third of the damage here.
Kain leaves shortly, taking Adrenaline with him. He's not back until the final boss so we're missing out on that useful augment which could be used by Cecil, I guess? Anyway, in the long term, Adrenaline!Kain is justified because Kain contributes to the final battle considerably greater than Cecil (what with joining overlevelled).
Also, I lost like 10K money while running away in the underworld. Shit sucks.
