Finally, a difficult battle. Cranes have several moves that can kill Gau instantly, and Vanish won't help him. Actually, whereas the Wall Ring protects you from spells, applying Vanish will only make you vulnerable to them. Not a good strategy at all.

Not only that, but the cranes counter and their counters hurt. Two are enough to force you to retry, sometimes just one takes you down.

I gave Gau a Bard's Hat instead of the Green Beret for less HP but better MEvade. Still, a MEvade stat of 28 leaves a lot to be desired, but if you watch this video you'll understand why it's preferable to, say, a MEvade of 18.

Two Aqua Breath castings destroy one Crane, but you'll need three if they keep healing each other.

All in all, this is a very luck-reliant battle in which it matters a lot whom the bosses target out of your party, whether they counter or not and as this vid clearly shows if Gau gets serious evade hax.
