First encounter with a demonic Valmar part.

This battle took a long time to finish, but it was much harder than anything else before it (which is just two battles though).

Party's levels:

Ryudo - 10
Millenia - 14 (lv. 16 after the battle)
Roan - 8
Mareg - 16

Since Mareg is a stable party member for a long time (no spoilers, mmkay) and Millenia is only present in a very limited amount of battles, I decided I'd give her another two levels here, keeping Mareg at lv. 16.

This recording shows my second attempt at fighting the boss. The first one, which I wasn't recording, was a failure. I got destroyed in just three turns, because I abstained from healing during the first turn, concentrating on attacking. Two characters of mine were hurt a bit and I ignored it. Then three of the boss's parts (he's got a head, two hands and the part killing which finishes the battle - the tongue itself) moved all at once, two of them using moves hurting multiple target at once. Two of my people got KO'd and the others were left with yellow HP. Then the tongue did its absorption attack which healed it for even more points than I had damaged earlier. Needless to say, there wasn't much I could do to fix the situation at the time.

Then I did some preparation. I had only like 500 magic coins, making learning new magic very problematic. I did spend some coins to learn the ability to increase the party's defence though, and updated it to lv. 3, so that my mage, Roan, would execute it quickly.

Since Roan has only 360 HP at lv. 8 I also put a lot of special coins into the HP+ ability. He had 200 HP extra, but that actually wasn't necessary with the defensive strategy I had in mind for the opening of the combat.

Finally, knowing the importance of items, I put a lot of coins into improving Skilled Item Use (or something), which speeds up the time required to use an item. I gave the skill to Ryudo, whose purpose at the beginning was to heal everyone.

I also should mention that I bought a lot of each item in the shop before advancing to the dungeon, as I didn't really know what I would need. This proved essential, because Insecticide Bombs appeared to deal far more damage than any of my spells or specials. I don't know if it is so effective naturally or the boss's parts count as insects, but some parts seem to have a weakness to the item, whereas others don't.

When the battle begins, we must first of all have Millenia attempt to mute the enemy's magic with Shhh! It has a good chance and I managed to mute 3 of 4 parts. The next turn, I put the fourth part to sleep. Meanwhile, Roan slowly boosts the party's defence by degrees, Ryudo heals, seeing how even with magic disabled their attacks hurt quite a bit. Mareg either tosses items or uses his specials. His physical attack is far superior to anyone else's, though Millenia can do good damage with her bow.

The objective is to kill the tongue, but it has 8 thousand HP and can heal itself by absorbing the whole party's health. The other parts are so dangerous that we can't afford them being present with our levels, so the hands, as the parts with the least HP, should be taken out first.

Millenia's magic is very effective here, hurting all four parts for very good damage per each Zap casting, and I discover the effectiveness of the Insecticide Bomb in the heat of the battle.

The first part of the epic battle ends on a minor note, with me thinking I can finish off a hand with less than 100 HP remaining by having the hero use his combo attack and he does only 20 damage. That's what being at lv. 10 does to you, I guess. All four parts are still alive at the end of this video.

To be continued...
