Short and sweet version (due to my eyes being miserable and dilated and unable to focus well on the computer screen).
This is a dark, miserable, violent, filthy book. It's also an interesting look at material that is rarely presented in such a manner. It takes a lot of biblical stories at face value and just rolls with it in a very savage and oppressive atmosphere (directly brought about by Cain). There's interesting little nuggets of back story interspersed throughout the action that call back to a lot of those stories as well.
I feel like there's a lot of potential waiting to well its way up to the surface here, but then it's over just as quick as it started.
There is the second book to look forward to, and it's due to arrive in a matter of months as of me typing this. I eagerly look forward to it.
I remember reading this around the same time as Adrian Smith's Chronicles of HATE and feeling they were good books to accompany each other, with a similar vibe existing in both.
If you dig these types of fantasy stories, I say check it out.
If it's a bit too offensive for you, apologies. Don't say you weren't warned at least!
